Recruitment - Junior Java Developer

We are looking for a talented graduate to join our software development team, working on the next generation of our Optrak software. In this challenging role you will be exposed to, and be expected to master, a variety of Java technologies. Our logistics applications incorporate mobile applications, mapping, distributed applications, data modelling, mathematical optimisation, both web and Swing GUIs and data analytics. We work in small teams and you will quickly assume responsibility for your own work from design through coding to unit testing.

Qualifications

You need to have an excellent degree in Computer Science, Maths, Science or Engineering and have undertaken a significant programming-based project – either as part of your degree or externally. Experience and an interest in any of the following would be useful:

  • Logistics,
  • Operations Research,
  • Mapping/GIS,
  • OLAP/Analytics
  • General business data modelling.

We want people who will bring enthusiasm, creativity and analytical thinking to the job. You will be expected to make your own design decisions and be prepared to justify them during code reviews.

Training

Training is conducted in-house and on-the-job. You will work closely with a more experienced programmer. We take graduates with no Java experience and turn them into experts. And you will be part of a working team from the start.

Salary

Salary is commensurate with experience and the progress you make.

Company Culture

The atmosphere is informal and friendly with an emphasis on taking personal responsibility.

Location and Travel

Optrak is based in Hertford – a market town 28 miles north of Central London – about 50 minutes away by frequent train. You can commute from North London. Existing staff commute by foot, car or bike – you can take advantage of the Cycle-to-Work Scheme.
