Optrak4 for Commercial Waste is an enhanced version of Optrak4’s vehicle routing and scheduling software, designed specifically for the needs of commercial waste and recycling collection, covering a variety of waste types, from food waste to waste oil.
Different problems have different characteristics. For example, food waste may be collected as often as twice daily and often follows a regular schedule, with many drops per trip. Waste oil, by contrast is likely to be less frequent with fewer collections per trip. Each waste type could have requirements necessitating specialist vehicles with compartments for particular waste streams, or equipment such as pumps and hoses.
Some customers such as factories, offices, truck companies and farms generally order much larger quantities with more precise and exacting collection requirements, including booked collection times. These collection operations can require or lend themselves to fixed schedules outside of the daily planning.
You may have a combination of long-term regular customers, “spot” orders and customers on “collect-before-full” contracts, either monitored or forecast based. Often, this gives you a choice of delivery day. For the spot orders there will be a contracted due date – or an emergency “as soon as possible” order. For collect before full orders you will can go sooner – reducing the chance of a overflow, but decreasing the quantity collected (and hence your overall routing efficiency) – or later, for bigger more efficient collections, so long as it is before expected the run-out date.
Optrak4 can be tailored to fit your specific load requirements/specification with customised loading modules that takes into account the physical characteristics of the vehicle and ensures that the loads will fit. These specifications are then included in the optimisation process – tracking the expected contents of the compartments to ensure your trips are properly organised and the collector has complete control of the delivery process.
Optrak4’s optimiser can be designed to fit the delivery profile/requirements of your customers. By prioritising customers according to days left it will ensure that the really urgent orders take top priority while still being able to combine these with less urgent, but close-by, orders for efficient trips. To help the planner visualise the requirements, Optrak4’s map display can colour-code the orders based on date.
Optrak4 can also be used to generate the fixed plans in instances where you might hold contracted cycles for the different customers. The schedules are then used to generate daily collection rounds that are uploaded into driver’s hand-held computers for proof-of-collection and food safety legislation compliance.
