Optrak

Cloud-based VRP for mixed-fuel and electric fleets

Last updated: 2026-08-11

Optrak plans, sequences, and optimises daily routes for delivery and collection fleets — deciding which vehicle does which drops, in what order, against the rules the operation actually has to keep. It is the planning layer, not a full TMS: it produces the plan your transport office runs and your drivers execute, and hands it to whatever systems you already have.

What separates it from a general routing tool is the depth of the model underneath. Optrak treats your sites, orders, products, vehicles, drivers, and trailers as real things with real properties, rather than reducing them to a simplified vehicle routing problem.

What It Plans

  • Routes and sequences — the optimisation engine weighs every constraint together rather than fixing the vehicles first and the order second.
  • Loading — load feasibility is checked inside route construction, from weight-and-volume through to 2D floor plans and 3D placement, including compartments, moveable bulkheads, and bulk cleaning rules.
  • Drivers, tractors, and trailers — modelled as independent resources, so trailer swaps, within-shift reassignment, and livery or qualification compatibility are planned rather than worked around.
  • Journey times that change through the day — congestion-aware travel times, so a leg in the morning peak isn’t costed like the same leg at midday.
  • Electric and mixed-fuel fleets — physics-based energy consumption and in-route charging, with diesel, EV, HVO, CNG and LNG costed side by side in one plan.
  • Strategic questions — scenario work on the same engine and the same data: fleet sizing, depot location, and EV transition planning. The Strategic Workbench puts that in the hands of the team asking the question.

The Optrak Planner for a day of 148 orders on 24 journeys: one journey's stops open for editing on the left, every route on the map beside it, the list of journeys below, and each driver's day as a timeline on the right.

Who It’s For

Delivery and collection fleets of every kind, and at its best where the operation doesn’t fit a standard routing model: bulk multi-compartment distribution, multi-temperature work, complex tractor-trailer and driver scheduling, product-level loading constraints, and operators modelling the switch to electric vehicles. The benefits are clear from about 20 vehicles upwards.

How It Is Delivered

Optrak is delivered as a cloud service on a monthly per-vehicle subscription, with UK data residency for UK customers and EU residency for EU customers. Integration with TMS, ERP, and telematics is at API level; SAP and Sanderson Swords integrations are both proven in production.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Optrak priced?

As a monthly per-vehicle subscription. Talk to us about banding for your fleet size — the economics work differently for a 40-vehicle own-fleet operation and a 300-vehicle 3PL contract.

Where is my data held?

In the UK for UK customers, and in the EU for EU customers. Optrak Distribution Software is a UK company and not a US provider, which matters if you report to customers with data-residency requirements of their own.

Will it integrate with our TMS, ERP, or telematics?

Integration is at API level, and the patterns are well-trodden — Optrak has been integrated cleanly with SAP and with Sanderson Swords in production customer environments. Most Optrak deployments replace an existing planning system rather than starting from nothing, so the surrounding IT footprint is usually already known.

How big does a fleet need to be?

Optrak can work with any sized fleet. But the advantages of optimisation get greater as fleet size or logistics complexity increase. For a straight-forward operation, you may find that for 10 vehicles or fewer, the optimiser does not make a big enough improvement over manual planning to make the investment worthwhile. But if you’re struggling with planning, we’re happy to talk.
